Takahashi Shu (b. 1930) is known for an artistic style characterized by charming and vibrant organic forms. Meanwhile, Fujita Sakura freely uses fabric in her endearing, highly expressive works as well as making magazine covers and picture books. The couple came to live in Setagaya after they were married in 1958. They subsequently moved to Rome in the early ’60s, and were based in the city for 41 years. Today, Takahashi and Fujita, both of whom are around 90, continue to work in their studio on Sami Beach in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture. This exhibition, which includes some of the artists’ latest efforts, focuses on the history of this lovely couple and the trajectory of their creative activities.
