Taiji Kiyokawa: The Road from Figuration to Abstraction

Overview

In fiscal 2019, the Taiji Kiyokawa Memorial Gallery takes an overview of the painter Taiji KIYOKAWA's approximately 60-year career in two exhibitions drawn from the gallery collection. The first focuses on the period from the 1940s, when KIYOKAWA was getting his start as an artist, to the late ’60s. Viewers will enjoy watching KIYOKAWA’s stylistic transformation as the figurative painter embraced an abstract approach after relocating to the U.S. in the ’50s.
