MUKAI Junkichi: Plein-Air and Studio Painting

Overview

MUKAI Junkichi produced many of his paintings of folk dwellings by traveling to the sites, bearing canvas and easel, and painting what he saw before him. This exhibition presents these oils and watercolors painted in the open air alongside large-scale works produced in his studio, juxtaposing them so as to explore in depth MUKAI’s distinctive handling of landscape and the wide range of painterly techniques he employed.
