Patterns And Variations: MIYAMOTO Saburo’s Painting Variations

Overview

As we look back at the career of the Western-style painter MIYAMOTO Saburo(1905-1974), we find a bewildering number of stylistic changes and myriad variations on a single theme executed over a short period of time. The artist asked his models to assume various poses and rearranged small objects, and repeatedly experimented with different types of composition and expression. Here, we present a wide range variations in his paintings that were the product of Miyamoto’s ever-inquisitive mind.
