Shintaro Tanaka: Far Removed from Meaning

Overview

Any discussion of art from the 1960s on must include TANAKA Shintaro (1940–2019). After a period of activity as a member of the Neo-Dadaist movement, he began producing works utilizing simple, minimalist forms that gained him immediate attention. In the 1980s these metamorphosed into works combining two- and three-dimensional elements. Through all the permutations of his art, Tanaka kept his gaze focused on a certain vision of form. This is the first retrospective of his work at a Tokyo museum.
