The painter MIYAMOTO Saburo (1905–1974) grew up in Komatsu, Ishikawa Prefecture, surrounded by bodies of water—the Sea of Japan and its lagoons. Here we introduce his water-themed works in all their diversity—scenes of fishing in his hometown, the French seacoast, eddying rivers, human figures reflected in water, and more. The prominence of water in Miyamoto’s work hints at its significance as a wellspring for his creativity.
