Miyamoto Saburo: Painting the World of Myth

Overview

MIYAMOTO Saburo learned much from Western art and applied it to his own work. Among those influences were themes from mythology and religion. The resplendently colorful nudes he painted late in his career frequently allude to the world of myth. This exhibition features works inspired by Western mythology as well as Miyamoto’s sketches of Japanese Buddhist statuary, highlighting his fascination with cultural motifs from both East and West.
